I believe no one else in the world that can eat hotpots more than Chinese. Since China is original and started hotpots originally, especially when eating hotpots in winter feel warmer in this weather. Chinese usually like to eat hotpots with a group of friends. However, there is also Japanese-style shabu-shabu that belong to Japan which is Japanese hot pot, to have a try of shabu-shabu in Japan, is the best way to ‘date’ Japanese culture.


Shabu-shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ) is a Chinese-Japanese nabemono hotpot dish of thinly sliced meat and vegetables boiled in water.[1] The term is onomatopoeic, derived from the sound emitted when the ingredients are stirred in the cooking pot and served with dipping sauces. The food is cooked piece by piece by the diner at the table. Shabu-shabu is considered to be more savory and less sweet than sukiyaki.
The biggest and most popular chain restaurant for hot pot in Japan is called “On-Yasai温野菜”. No matter which branch you go to, if you do not make an appointment, you usually need to wait for an hour at least. Just to remind you there are some branches not accept reservations such as Shibuya branch. If you select this branch, you better be prepared to wait in line or go slightly early than a normal dinner time.
The best thing about this place is that they offering a package of free refill with meats and dish option. A customer can order various dish unlimited, and everyone can eat until full and satisfied. When they called up your number while you were waiting, the enthusiastic staff will assign you whether to a Japanese tatami style table or a normal table seat according to how many of you. There is pork option, beef option or beef+pork option, they are all including chicken, appetizer, side dish, and even dessert.
In Japanese-style shabu-shabu, the necessary “ingredient” for some kind of hot pot is similar as in China, except that their soup base is quite different. Everyone can choose either rich creamy soup or light clear soup according to their preference. Out of all options, "soybean milk soup base" (great for meat) and "Japanese clear soup" (best for veggie). Recommended to who like to try Japanese soup. Do not underestimate this simple soup, they are actually made from a variety of spice, fresh ingredients essence.
Once you select the option of your course, you may start with selecting 2 kinds of soup base. And follow by appetizer, salad, while waiting for your soup to be boiled, you will never be hungry. My little tip for those who like to eat a lot, you may start with vegetables before the meat, one reason is that you can taste the simple yet delicious taste of the soup and have some base for your stomach, I am pretty sure you won’t have much space after you started your meat session. This way you may feel filling and you still enjoy a good balance of a meal.


Why I say so, it is because the sweet come at the end of your meal you would not want to miss it, for customer that order refillable course, you may order 1 choice of dessert each, out from a few options such as matcha ice-cream, almond sweet tofu, peanut sweet dessert and many more.
How could you not be satisfied with all savory from this shabu-shabu meal, not only meat, dish and original Japanese appetizer you could never be missed. The dessert is just the best choice to end this savory meal experience.
